Author's Statement regarding A Mother's Life

A Mother's Life is currently looking for a home.

Even as a young child, my mother was always a joyous presence in my life. I grew up as one of seven children, so at least one of us seemed to always have a scraped knee, a bee sting or some other injury that needed Mom's attention, and she was always there with a smile or a funny story. In fact, she was the happiest person I knew. On top of that, my grandmother would come stay with us for extended periods of time to help my mother with the chores and minding the kids. So I just assumed my mother was born happy and, on top of that, my grandmother provided her with a carefree life. But when I got older, I came to realize that their story was much harder and more jagged that I ever could have imagined. A Mother's Life is a novel loosely based on their lives since neither woman wanted to dwell or speak much about those early days. Still what emerges is a tale of courage, family, resilience and hope.
